Welcome to my blog!
I love food. I love everything about food. I love to read about food, shop for food, prepare food, and of course I love to eat food. I love to braise it, grill it, roast it, and bake it.
I also love a party.
Food has always been important to me. I remember praying for poor people all over the world before we ate dinner every night. One day we were out of ice cream. My mom started to say her prayer for the needy people in Glendale. I was a kid, and we were out of ICE CREAM. I thought we as a family had hit rock bottom. So I’m pretty sure I didn’t care about the needy people in Glendale at the moment. I asked my parents if we should pray for us instead. We were out of ice cream, for crying out loud.
My mom kind of sucked at cooking when we were growing up, so I was a very skinny kid. At some point I discovered some food actually tasted good, besides ice cream of course. Not all pasta was served with V-8 as marinara, and most lemon meringue pies included sugar.
I found my mom’s California Heritage Cookbook, and decided to try a few recipes. My mom would write me a blank check and drop me off at the grocery store. If I wanted to learn how to make something that wasn’t in the book, like split pea soup, I would wait in the split pea aisle until a mom-like person who looked like she knew a thing or two about split pea soup walked by. Then I would ask her how to make split pea soup. I learned a lot from the aisles of the grocery store. This was back in the day before cell phones and the internet. Yes, I’m old, so what.
I hope you enjoy my blog. I’m hoping my mom reads a few posts too. Okay, I made her subscribe. She can set a table that would put Martha Stewart to shame. Cooking is just not her thing. I’m hoping she gets inspired to cook something that completes her fabulous table settings.
